Visiting Professionals Residency
The Visiting Professionals Residency is a continuation of the O’Neill’s efforts to increase transparency by opening the O’Neill’s models of submission and development to the broader theater community.
Over a four-day residency, directors, literary managers, dramaturgs, university educators, and theater administrators will observe and partake in the process of the O’Neill’s National Playwrights Conference. Participants will join in conversation with conference playwrights, playwright observers, directors, dramaturgs, and other members of the O’Neill community. They will observe rehearsals and readings, and participate in topical seminars on the field of new play development. The schedule also includes time for enjoying the O’Neill’s campus and nearby beach, reading plays, and casual conversation with members of the O’Neill community, as well as attendance at the Summer Gala.
In previous years, the O’Neill has hosted professionals from Chicago Dramatists, Geva, Theater J, Curious Theatre Company, and Looking Glass.
